Family Cruising
We have decided to homeschool our children and go cruising. We will sail in our 26-foot Westerly sloop with a modest budget of 12-15k a year. Please offer any comments or advice. John Sue and Larry respond: First off, congratulations on your decision to leave and to homeschool your children. We've never met a cruising family that was unhappy with its decision. The children that we meet cruising are also delightful! Your budget sounds realistic. We personally know a very frugal family of four who found they could live on around $500/month in the more remote islands. Stay away from places where it's tempting to spend money. To stretch your budget the furthest, stay out of marinas and plan to work on your boat yourself. Best of Luck, Sue and Larry
