Sullivan County, NY
Bayme,
There are a lot of lakes in Sullivan County. They are generally divided into motorboat and non-motorboat usage. Though I have not yet sailed in any of these lakes, my guess is that the ones that have state-run boat ramps are for motorboat use as well as sailing. I assume that the ones with private boat ramps are for whatever use the owner allows. I know some owners charge a fee for the use of their access. For example, Horseshoe lake requires you to buy a membership.
I''m not sure how many (or if) sailboats are in kept the water up there, but people I have talked to seem to make reference to keeping boats further east closer to the ocean. The three, NY State boat ramps I am aware of are White Lake (a real summer vacation spot), Mongaup Falls Reservior, and Mongaup Pond. White Lake is the widest, shaped like a bent dumbbell. The latter two are about a mile long and very narrow.
There are also three other ramps on the Delaware River along the PA border at Callicoon, Skinner Falls and Narrowsburg, but these are much further from NYC.
What kind of boating are you going to do? Will you be trailering?
Good fortune,
Chas
