Bahamas this winter (''''04)???

Has anyone been to the Bahamas yet this year? It''s now November, and we are preparing to leave on an extended cruise that was originally planned to include the Bahamas. This was pre-hurricane season, and we''ve heard that the Abacos were seriously damaged. Does anyone have any info? Anyone planning to go this winter? We have not been to the Bahamas yet, so we''re a little concerned that we may run (literally) into some difficulties.

There''s a current and fairly thorough review of the Abacos recovery from hurricane damage at http://ssca.org/sscabb/index.php which is the SSCA''s discussion board. Look in the topical area related to destinations. I think a fair statement is that most damage has been repaired and there''s not a reason to skip the Abacos.

Enjoy the cruise!

Bahamas this winter (''''04)???

I just got back from the Bahamas 2 weeks ago. I''m heading back again after Turkey day.

Abaco Island was hit pretty hard but much of the power has already been restored.

Where in the Bahamas are you headed?

My boat is in Bimini and like most of the Bahamas, they Bimini escaped much of the wrath of this season''s 4 hurricanes. (I have noticed that the beaches, lost a bit of sand though).

Best to ya,

Traff

We just returned from Marsh Harbour on Nov. 14, docks were hard hit, Mangos just reopened and Snappas is gone. As first time visitors things did not look too bad to us, however the locals had a different view. The land and buildings are scarred but the Sea Of Abaco is beautiful, I would go!
