Standing Watch

There is an article on this website discussing several different schedules for standing watch on cruises.

Here''s another alternative... several years ago, I was one of a three man crew on a 9-month cruise to Tahiti from Hawaii; 23 islands in all. We were at sea about 4 of those 9 months. We ran a "3 on, 6 off" schedule. If you do the math, the schedule changed every day. The 6pm to 9pm watch was the dinner cook. The same person had the next 3am to 6am watch and was responsible for breakfast prep. This person, then had 2 days without meal responsibility; then the shifts cycled all over again.

It worked well for our 3 man crew and offered plenty of variety, no one person always had the crummy watch.
