I''ve sailed down the East River and past Manhattan as part of heading south before, but have never stopped. What suggestions can anyone give about possible marinas to stay at for a couple of days? Are there any anchorages convenient to the City? Thanks in advance for any advice.

There are several marinas in Jersey City, north of the Statue Of Liberty, that are close to the Path train to NYC.

Several options: West 79th Street Boat Basin on the Upper West Side in the Hudson River. North Cove Yacht Harbor in back of the World Financial Center in Battery Park City. (There may be a South Cove as well, not sure.) Chelsea Piers Marina in Chelsea in the Hudson. Off island Liberty View Marina in NJ and several marinas on City Island. (City Island is a hike, however.) Might also give a call to the South Street Seaport but I am not sure they have any transient space. Good luck.

As you are coming down the East River and not the Hudson, seems your best bet may be to round the Battery and head across the harbor to Jersey City else turn to port and try Brooklyn. See www.libertylandingmarina.com for a good spot in JC. Also go to www.boatus.com and look for member marinas in Brooklyn.
