South Pacific info please

It has been too many years and too much water past the keel to remember or keep up with nformation on so many places in the south pacific.
If any of you could enlighten me on the latest fees, procedures and neat places that you feel were interesting, it would certainly be appreciated.
I'll be leaving from Southern Calif or Mexico and would love to hear anything from others that have made the trip in the last couple years.
I remember when the French made it sometimes difficult to enter and how the Galopagoes were off limits, etc.
