Bermuda crossing

Would like information about any regettas
on way to Bermuda in Oct. or anytime after Sept.
Or if any one would be interested in crossing with me on my 10M Pearson.
any suggestions?

Hi Duke, My husband and I just finished sailing from San Francisco to Ft. Pierce, Fla. and will be sailing to Bermuda in the late Fall. Can you recommend any cruising guides? Thanks, Dianna and Jim on Athena

hi,
there isn''t a whole lot of cruising around bermuda. however the bermuda tourist council (on the web) will mail you a great pamphlet about coming into bermuda via boat including anchoring areas etc. when you are within vhf range of bermuda you must check in with bermuda harbor radio . if i you have ssb you can check in when you leave fla. they will keep an eye out for you. you must enter bermuda on the east harbor st. georges and go to the customs dock it''s about a mile from the entrance to the harbor on the north side. you pull right up to the dock and clear in very simple and hospitible, you must check guns and flare guns. they are very hospitable. there is a bus that runs all around the island and is very cheap. you can anchor in in the harbor or tie up to the quay near the customs dock. (some boats have been broken into there in the past.
we stay at the st georges dinght club (say hi to vincent the bartender for me) they are very eager for cruisers and have good showers and a head electric is $6 a day water is free.. if you anchor or tie up to the quay it''s a hike to the showers.

there are many cruisers guides to the carribbean. where are you going?

where are you leaving from?
is your boat 100% for offshore.
what type of autopilot do you have ?
do you have ssb?,radar, liferaft,epirb,watermaker, orc flares?
do you have many spares and all engine spares and a second way to generate electric as well as a large house battery bank?
did you review the orc regulations for an offshore #1 race. this is basically the same as a trip to bermuda.

did you look into the carribean 1500. i believe it leaves from the mid atlantic around the first week of november?

I added up the required equiptment for offshore for carribean 1500 and it comes to $6,000 plus so Iam working like a fene to get all put together.
My boat is a very sound vessel although as you know the requirements for offshore is all together different then taking a sail in the bay. So as soon as I get all that is needed I''ll start looking for a crew with more experience then I so as to learn from others..
The auto pilot is a st4000;have radar and orc flares need liferaft and epirb;have dedicated battery for starting and 2 battery house bank;
Got to buy wind and solar energy yet.
where are you located Eric? what state?
I really appreciate all your input being new to sailing. Also would you suggest a windvane instead of a autopilot.?

the requirements for the caribbean 1500 is the bare minimum list.

i am located in long island and will be going south again in 2 months

is the website of kimberlite there is a movie of us heading to bda in a gale as well as some shots coming north from st thomas.

i am of a belt and suspender mentality
i would have at least a second complete autohelm , much larger battery bank, and a monitor windvane.
you will also need a ssb to get weather updates/faxes and to be able to speak to herb.
