Caribbean bareboat charter invitation

my wife and i are planning a 7 day bareboat charter (we skipper the boat) in the Caribbean. british virgin islands.
looking for another couple to join us.
i had made the charter thinking we had another couple lined up.
they canceled and i am afraid the 42 footer my be to much for us. (wife has very little experience)
this is not a trip where you are trapped on a boat for 7 days!
dates= leave sat jan 6, return sat jan 13
approximate costs airfare and charter 42' Beneteau
2 couples= $ 3300.00
this is a real good price.

We're a couple who in principle would love to participate in a Caribbean charter. We have a 42 ft boat of our own (bought about 4 months ago). We have never chartered a boat, but are planning to do so in the future. We love sailing, but our fund of experience is somewhat limited. While we have no arguments with your list of interests, there may be other things which would affect "compatibility", such as ages of participants, and the fact that we would be complete strangers. Also, this is decidedly short notice (basically four weeks) to set up the complex logistics of such a trip. In particular, plane tickets begin to get really expensive as the reservations are made closer to the travel date. Finally, there are the complexities of work schedules....Boy, I sure wish this trip were several months from now so we could discuss it at more length with less time pressure! Sounds like fun!

hi Bob-I took a basic keelboat class, a little bit of sailing, and went to the BVI's and bareboated a 464. My wife(who never took a class) wanted to take the 505, but el cheapo(me) said no. We had 7 people on board including my 11 year old daughter at the time. What an experience of a lifetime.
My advice---Just the 2 of you would have a great time on a 42'. It is not a hard sail. If she is into it, You will be fine on your own.

If you don't want to pull up to a dock the entire week, you do not have to. We were there a week and the fuel gauge needle never budged off of full. You will have to know how to "communicate with your wife" when picking up a mooring. It is crucial that the 2 of you have practiced working together on this. She drives and you grab the ball with your boat hook.
2. Leave early anchorage early and arrive early.
3. Before going into the new anchorage, look at the chart and cruising guide with your wife and make sure you are both on the same page.
4. Let your wife plan the itinerary. You just be glad that you're there!
5. Remember that your mood and how you carry yourself, will have a huge impact on the whole crew. My wife said she had never seen me so nice and content than I was that week.

Hi Bob,
I would certainly be interested in sailing in the BVI and am available on the dates in question. I hope this is not a problem but my girlfriend would not be able to get time off on such short notice, but lucky me being self employed I can. I would be willing to share expenses on a 50/50 basis with yourselves and you are right the deal seems great.
I do not have a tremendous amount of sailing experience but did sail for 10 days in the BVI in June and have ASA 101, 103 and 104. I have no doubt that we could easily handle the boat. I am in the proceess at this time of looking to buy a yacht in the BVI so the timing is perfect for me.
A little about me , I am a very easy going person , am a self employed accountant who loves to sail and is very outgoing, enjoys swimming, snorkeling, a few too many cocktails, lol, and basically having fun.
