Finances in the Bahamas
I'll be heading over to the Bahamas next month and am interested in whether to carry several hundred dollars in cash or can I depend on credit and debit cards. Also what are the dangers of credit and debit card fraud in the islands, especially away from Nassau?

We were in Eleuthera this October. Had no problems using our Bank of America Check/Debit Card and were able to obtain up to $500 Bahamian from the bank "Hole in the Wall"

Bank Card
I was not as fortunate and my debit card was not accepted in Marsh Harbor. It may be a function of the bank ATM you're trying to use

I have frequently used my Bank of America checkcard in bahamas and never had trouble of any sort. In Nassau itself several machines even offer the choice of US or Bahamian dollars!

New Providence has dependable ATM's everywhere, it use to be that the City Markets would not take credit cards but most of the marinas will. As far as fraud, I was based in Nassau for 3+ years cruising the Exumas and never had a problem with it.

Used our citibank cards with no problem in Abacos...Marsh Harbor and Treasure Cay an in Georgetown Exumas no problems. All card machines were at banks and dispensed only Bahamian don't take more than you need!
