Provided it's in good shape, your boat should do just fine. If I was in a noreaster surrounded by pack ice, I could think of a few boats that I'd rather be in, but that doesn't make your Hunter a POS. That boat was designed to be fast around the bouys, and for short coastal passages. Since that is exactly what you are planning to do, I think you'll be just fine. Going south on that course plan on losing about a knot worth of speed, since you may be fighting the GS on your way down. If you stay really close to shore, the current kind of swirls around and will help you on some legs, but you'll have to keep a closer lookout for other boats and stuff.
I'm about to head back down to FL myself here in the next 2 months, provided my repower goes well enough. Maybe we can all join up.
