Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, FL suggestions

Hi,

We will be taking a 5 day trip to Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, FL in August. Does anyone have any input on marinas, restaurants, do's and don'ts?

Many thanks!

Go see Cumberland Island just north of the St. Mary's River. You can anchor out off the Nat'l Park Dock and explore this amazing place...looks like Jurrasic Park...wild horses, turkeys, armadillos...miles of ocean beaches and the old Carnegie estate.

Stay at the Fernandina muni marina which will put you at the foot of charming downtown shops and eateries. There's a nice Irish pub there with good food and drink as well as lots of other restaurants.

Tiger Point Marina is good if you need any repairs....but not so centrally located.

I'll second the suggestion to see Cumberland Island. If you love nature, it's a must see. The anchorage across from Fernandina Beach is very good and for $3 (or was it $5) you can use their dinghy dock and showers. Five or six good restaurants on main street. Suggest you ask the dock master for suggestions. A really nice town except when the wind is from the wrong direstion, then you get the great paper mill smell.

Thanks to you both for the great suggestions. I wouldn't have thought of Cumberland Island!
