[NEW SIXTH EDITION] World Cruising Routes by Jimmy Cornelll

Just posting to let distance cruisers (or those planning to distance cruise) that the sixth edition of this very helpful book is now out, even though it has yet to be advertised on Cornell's www.noonsite.com webpage. I bought it in Toronto at Nautical Mind bookstore for $69.25, and as it provides about 90% of the information in the Admiralty's "Ocean Passages of the World" at about 40% of the cost, it's a good way to start planning.

I think this book, plus the free U.S. pilots and charts, would do in many situations, and ordering British charts would handle for the rest.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Dunno! I haven't read the fifth!

But I do recall in the introduction that they've included more routes (he did a circ between 2001-2005, the details of which are in his recent memoir) and that there's a large number of GPS waypoints in there now, all of which he warns are of the "landfall" variety, i.e. a few miles off anything potentially dangerous.

He has also expanded his "tropical storm" periods, due to the increasing unpredictability of when these seasons are tending to end in some of the more preferred sailing routes.

It's a real doorstopper of a book...I'm only 50 pages in or so.

LynW is on a distinguished road
Thanks Valiente, one book that's a real must-have. I'm still on the 3rd ed so will look out for the new one.
