mooring/storage in Bahamas

Anybody got any thoughts on longer term storage or moorings in the Bahamas, most likely somewhere south towards the Exumas? Are there any decently protected moorings or anchorages where a boat could be left for a month or so at a time? Likely not during hurricane season. Boat is just under 30ft. I'd like to do some on and off cruising there, flying in and out once a month or so for 10 days or so for about 6 months. Thanks.--Steve

Exumas Docking Service in Georgetown is the only place I can think of in the southern Bahamas with decent access to an airport.
Exuma Docking Services, Main Street, George Town (tel. 242/336-2578)

I've stayed at the marina, it's not much but it's cheap at George Town. After winter it's like a ghost town and fun place to be. I'm usually gone by Aug.1. I sail a 45' center **** pit with a 5 1/2 ' draft and have no problems. Just a note though, there has been Malaria several times there lately, make sure you have your shots.

The only problem wit Exuma Docking is that when the fronts come in, it can get pretty rough there. And those folks won't do anything to protect your boat.
I don't have a phone number, but the more practical solution is to get one of the moorings in what's called Hole Number 2 by Stocking Island. Try to get in contact with Wendell. He's known on the radio as Little Toot. Everyone knows him. He owns several of the moorings. You'll be very protected from winds in all directions so if no one should check on your boat you'll be okay. Two winters ago it was only $250/month.
There's another person who also owns some moorings there, but I forgot their name. If you want to go that route, let me know and I'll try to get a phone number if you can't find one.
The last suggestion is the marina at, I think, the Four Seasons motel. Or maybe it's just the Emerald Bay marina. It's at the north end of Georgetown also with good access to the airport. Supposed to be first rate with rates to match.
And when you finally go, make sure you use Les, from Taxi 12 for your transportation needs. Nice guy, reliable and will take care of any of your needs, especially if you like Cuban cigars. His cell number is 242-357-0015.

Scott

Scott - thanks for the tips. I contacted Les by Skype phone and he was very helpful getting in touch with Little Toot regarding storage this winter.
