Victoria Supermarkets?

We are going to be leaving Poulsbo WA on Aug. 7th, with Victoria our first stop on the way to Barkley Sound. We want to do our final provisioning in Victoria, esp. fruits and vegetables. Anyone in the area have any information on the closest good supermarket near the inner harbor?
How many blocks away? We could take a taxi, or do they deliver? We'll be gone 2 weeks with four people.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

If you tie up at the Coast Hotel marina they'll take you to a supermarket in their courtesy van. The rates are high at the Coast but you get full use of hotel facilities like the pool and hot tub.

Other than that I'm not aware of any real supermarkets withing walking distance.

Thanks so much for the information. My wife may want to hire a cab and go over to Costco. Looks like there is one 6 or 7 miles away.

There's a supermarket around a mile or so SSW from the Inner Harbor at the intersection of Menzies St and Simcoe St. Don't recall the name. There's a liquor store across the street.

We walked it from our hotel in the inner harbor. Not a bad walk.

Thrifty Foods is a great grocery store in james bay (Thrifty a local supermarket chain) very near the inner harbour - 475 simcoe st at the corner of simcoe and menzies (as referred to by the prior post) - about 5 blocks from the inner harbour. i live in victoria and tend to provision at (a different) thrifty's. despite the name, its not no frills, and a much more pleasant experience than costco. There is a government liquor store just across the street.

have you considered going to Sooke instead of victoria to shorten the trip to barkley sound?

sounds like a cool trip - we are planning for barkley sound for next june and would love to hear how it goes.

Thanks for the info on Thrifty Foods. Sounds like just what we need.
Our plans are to leave Victoria early and go as far as Port San Juan and anchor for the night (assuming a NW wind it shouldn't be too rolley.)

I'm thinking Sooke is just a protected anchorage without a place to clear Customs or do any provisioning. I can't go too far in there with an 8 foot draft.

I'll write a report when our cuise is done. We'll be cruising with another sailboat and meeting up with 2 powerboats in Barkley.

Just make 4 posts here, Tom.. This is appropriate, and simple to do. The posts do not need to be meaningful.
