First Overnighter This Weekend!

Hi all. I am finally at the point where most of the major repairs/upgrades have been done to Sundance, so I am finally going to take my wife and sons out for one night at Santa Cruz Island. I figure if it is totally miserable, it's only one night, right? If it is a success (which I think it will be), it will lay the ground work for some multiple night trips. We are going to head out fairly early Friday, hopefully by 0800-0900, and motor-sail to the island, which is straight upwind. We should get there noonish, which will give us time to anchor, or find another anchorage if our spot is too full. We are bringing the new (to us) 12' inflatable, one tandem kayak, fishing gear and snorkeling gear. I figure that I can hoist the boys (13 year-old twins) up the mast in the bosun's chair if they get too bored. Maybe I can get them to hoist me up as well? I know it doesn't sound like much, but this will be a big step towards taking cruising vacations. Wish me luck and I will post with the results.

Cool, I just spent about a week there, and it was surprisingly uncrowded. Painted cave was spooky! Can't wait to hear how it goes for you.

I know it's been a rough transition to the new boat, and I'm glad that you are taking your first cruise.

Have fun, and good luck!

Take pictures!

Enjoy your trip, I'm still working on a few small problems, with my new to me boat, I'm hoping to get my first trip to Catalina, the end of August or early September.

Have fun....

good luck and have fun. we just had our first overnighter ourselves last weekend. my 2 daughters, 4 & 6, had a blast. they are already asking when we are going to sleep over again. we ended up toasting marshmellows on the gas grill and making smores which the kids loved.

If you have an oven, surprise your crew with hot cinnamon rolls in the morning. Easy to make (the kind in the tube), easy cleanup and warms up the boat nicely.
