sponsors for cruising

is it possible to receive money from companies for example for a transatlantic trip in a small boat? probably u have to stick companys logo on sails and the hull

probably the sponsor wants you to be visible to public on races; TV; books etc if not what's the point to stick logos

what's your experience?

While it is possible, it isn't very likely to happen. The companies aren't generally going to be giving out money without a good reason.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough camaraderie is a jewel in the rough
It has been done so many times it is not an event companies will sponsor. You need a UNIQUE trip that will spark public interest to get sponsorship.

Zac Sunderland is getting some funds, but he is 16 and going solo around the world. Historic recreations - using a replica boat and tracing the route followed by an ancient explorer - can be pitched to National Geographic or Discovery, but credentials as a historian are pretty much a requirement.

Around in Ten - the 10' boat race around the world - is seeking sponsors and has been for some time, but I have seen no announcements of any and the site lacks any sponsor ads:

EDIT - It looks like one item has been "gifted" from the wish list:
Google Docs - Around In Ten . com

Think about it...sponsorship is just another form of print/billboard advertising. How many in the 18-34 male target demographic are there in the middle of the atlantic?

That's not the point of sponsoring a sailor/sailboat expedition. It's the ASSOCIATION with the person/boat/event. Races like the America's Cup are different because hundreds of thousands of people see the logos on the sails and hull.

Of course, either way, living in a country (eg. France, England, Australia, New Zealand) where sailing is big and embraced by the general populace would help...
