more BC coast cruising (lots of pics)
boat: nimble 20 'turnstone'
35 days 425 nm 8 gals of gas 28 nights at anchor, 7 nights at dock 6 days with rain average daily cash spending: $2.85 location: BC coast yes, it was a good summer. there's 3 of us on board plus a dog, which is one less than last year. the BC coast is an incredible place for touring. starting from anacortes, WA, we can bypass the busy san juan's in 2 days, enter the gulf islands via plumper sound and cruise on up to nanaimo. this year that stretch took 6 days. after crossing the strait of georgia to the mainland side things start to get really good. the coastline become less developed, with craggy cliffs and deep fjords. we hoped to make it to desolation sound, but the amazing southerlies that took us this far turned on us near malaspina strait. not being especially fond of motoring just to fulfill expectations, we turned up jervis inlet on a following breeze. at the head is the famous princess louisa inlet, which is any bit as gorgeous as expected. back out in the strait a week later we bumped north a little further on some fickle SE'lies before rounding the north end of texada and cruising down its long and exposed (for us) west side and on home more or less the same way we came. http://www.fivenineclimber.com/image...e/IMG_8154.jpg brisk day crossing the strait of georgia from nanaimo to pender harbor http://www.fivenineclimber.com/image...e/IMG_8220.jpg McMagic Cove (our name) Jervis Inlet. Jan,
Is that McMagic Cove near Ballet Bay? Looks like a nice little spot. And for you Scott, do you have to put the seat back down? |
Jan,
Those are amazing photos, and that is a great trip you took! Nice boat too. I hope someday to explore that area, you've given me even more incentive. Thank you very much for the post. - JRP |
