Caribe Weather and Nets on SSB/Ham

Here's a link to all of the weather broadcasts and nets available in the Caribe. You only need a $100 receiver to get all this stuff...but if you want to talk, then you need a full SSB/Ham Rig. You don't need to be rich to get good weather advice in the Caribe!

A lot of small shortwave radios will receive SSB frequency broadcasts. Some are better than others. Sony, Eton, etc.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Anyone care to share real world experience with receive only radios? Can I assume they are all 12 volt capable?
I put one on the xmas list. Would like excellent SSB & marine band reception plus AM/FM & other bands also.

Thanks

I have a Kaito KA1103 receiver. You're not going to be receiving much of anything with the antenna that comes with it. You need an external antenna.

Check out Target HF3P & HF3W Receiver

I had one for five years on my last boat - outstanding and simple.

Nasa Marine Instruments

Nasa Marine Instruments Limited

And fortunately sterling is dropping against the US$. Not sure why?

Which was OK. But my favorite was the NASA above.

Grundig was bought out by Eton IIRC.

Here's a bunch. RadioLabs Receivers
The more ya pay...the more ya get!
The tweaked up Sangean Super909 would be my choice today. I had the Yachtboy 400 which is now replaced by the Grundig G4000A at about $150...but for the Caribe the 909...Super or Regular ($329 vs. 239)
offers much more and a better speaker too.
