Hurricane preparation?

Hurricane Norbert will be hitting Guaymas in just about 24 hours from now forecast keeps changing, from a cat 4 to cat 2. My guess it will pick up steam in the Sea due to warmer waters and increase again to at least cat 3. OR, it may decrease to Tropical Storm Status, NHC is giving a broad leaway to what it will be. Here's the situation

I'm on the hard, I've had additional stands placed around the boat 12 total, all chained to the one opposite. Water tanks (200 gals) are almost empty, all loose articles tied down, solar panels tied down, sails and dodger removed, All flamable liquids have been secured, lea cloths on all bunks. Dinghy has been removed from the davits and pulled into a shed.

What am I forgetting? There's always something else. I'd rather be at sea, but, nothing I can do about that now.

Ian...good luck to ya. Are there other boats around you? Are the jackstands on wood or on the dirt.
We saw a lot of boats go over when others toppled into them...and when the jackstands sank into what was formerly hard packed dirt. Check your neighbors as well as your own vessel.
All best...keep us posted.

How are the stands under the boats near you? I'd think that just like on a mooring, it's the OTHER guy that somethimes ruins your day. Domino effect.

How's the drainage? In other words, will a massive amount of water cause erosion under your stands (or your neighbor's stands)?

Come to think of it, are you high enough above sea level so the storm surge doesn't get her?

Do you have all the sails off the boat?

Are there any loose lines that can beat your bottom paint/finish off your boat?

Do you have some warm company and a good book to read?

Hope that helps.

My boat's in Marina San Carlos, too. I emailed them and asked them to put more stakes around the boat but who knows if they did or not.
When Marty hit a while back some boats went over because the ground softened up. There are soft and hard areas in the yard. I am hoping mine is on a hard area as when Marty hit the jackstands loosened and gouged into the sides of my boat.

poopdeckpappy has a spectacular aura about poopdeckpappy has a spectacular aura about
would it not be better to have the water tanks full ???, 1600 lbs of dead weight may help keep the boat in place in the saddles

My boat's 20 tonnes. Maybe that's a blessing in disguise?

The current forecast had Norbert heading slightly north, north-east. The highest intensity winds predicted are 70 mph possibly lower. I don't believe there is much chance of a Cat 2 hitting land after passing over the Baja tomorrow... All that said I think you have taken the correct measures. Good luck!

My boat is in Marina San Carlos too and I have jack stands positioned at the location of the bulkheads which is the best location. I will be there on Monday to assess.

Thanks,

I'm at the Singular marina, the whole yard is concrete, the nearest boat is 100 feet. The concrete yard is what made my mind up about using this marina seca.

The latest NHC is predicting winds >73 mph, Guaymas is in the upper quadrant of a direct hit, the Mexican government has issued a hurricane warning for all this area.

Maybe filling the water tanks may be a good idea, that's 3200 more lbs down low.
