Maine to Norfolk in early November

I am planning a trip from Bass Harbor Maine to Norfolk VA aboard a 41'' sloop sometime in early November. I am from the West Coast of CA (Ventura) and have never sailed this part of the world, except for the Chesapeake. I will have a very experienced ''local'' from Maine, but I would like to learn as much as possible on my own regarding route planning and weather. The trip should take about four days +/-. Does anyone have any good advice for me regarding this trip?
