Cruising the Great Lakes

Has anyone spend considerable time cruising the Great Lakes? It would be interesting to know where the best places to go are.

Can you narrow that down a little bit.
Which Lake? Altogether you are talking about Thousands of miles.
A person could spend many years sailing the Great Lakes and not cover everything.

We sail Southern Lake Michigan and love it.
Every thing from the Big Cities of Chicago and Milwaukee to the small towns of South Haven and Holland.

The further North you go on Michigan the more remote you will be and more wilderness you will find. Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay are nice cruising grounds, mostly rocky shoreline here with high bluffs all around. The other side of the Lake is the exact opposite. Sandy beaches for miles apon miles with Large Dunes.

Beaver Island has an interesting history all to itself with a self proclaimed "King".

Thats about 1/2 of one of the Lakes.
Next up is Huron and the North Channel and Georgian Bay.
Literaly way too much to cover in one post.
There is lots of water out there.

Starting from Lake Ontario from the Bay of Quinte.

You can pick it up at any of your local boat chandleries or order it on line from one of them. It will give you all the information you need for the entire lake - USA and CAN

if you ever get up this far you will find lots of great cruising areas along the rock bound north shore. the water is clear, cold, & deep. the deepest part is over 1,300 ft deep. lots of islands & anchorages on the canadian side. really a beautiful wilderness area. lots of good cruising on the southern shore too. the best info is in bonnie dahl's book, the superior way . she has just about all the info on cruising the lake.
