Long Beach to Cojo Anchorage

I am planning on sailing from Long Beach CA to Cojo anchorage. What is the best way up to Cojo? I am thinking of Catalina then reaching to Ventura then motor sailing to Cojo. What are the chances of using guest slips in the ports between LB and Santa Barbara? I have seen boats anchored off the beaches south of Santa Barbara, is that an overnight option? I am allowing for a month in August and/or September, most of it going thru the Channel Islands on the return.

Any advise for the return trip?

Brad

I would also like to know if it's safe to anchor overnight off the beaches south of Santa Barbara.

All you Channel Islands Harbor/Ventura/ Santa Barbara sailers, what do you think?
