Of course MMR was mad at me for not sending her the SPOT link, but I figured since she was on the boat, she didn't really need it...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Dog, would it be too much to ask that you start a thread about Spot ? I would be interested in reading about your experiences using the device and the service.

Wow! You all have been so helpful! Thanks for the advice. It sounds like I need to go back to work for a while and save up some more money before I embark on my new adventure.

Of course, I'm still keeping my eye out for crew spots. So if any of you know of anything, let me know!

Thanks again,

Corey

She has a PLB and the boat is fully HAM/SSB-equipped. I'll just use e-mail and ask for position reports.

The Spot thing is fine for some, but the point of this is for her to solve alone watchkeeping and passagemaking problems. She'll have plenty of company.

Part of my challenge, on the other hand, is not to obsess over the weather and just how far a due north run from Eleuthera to NYC puts one offshore. I've already given myself eyestrain looking at the extended Bahamas forecasts and the Atlantic pilots for June!
