pearson 32 to FLA/Bahamas

We are looking at a 32 pearson and are talking about a possible trip this fall down the E. coast/ ICW and would like to hit the Bahamas late Nov. / Dec.
Is this a crazy idea in this boat? Would be leaving LIS area begining of Sept. and making our way down probably NYC - Del. bay- Chesapeek - ICW - FLA - ???. Thoughts Please.

I am wondering if Sept. might be a wee bit soon? I don't havethat answer, but it seems to me you will be moving south, and into the most active part of the season? The boat if a well founded boat with no issues will most likely bring you nothing but joy. BEST WISHES in a safe trip south, and across the stream. The Bahamas are wonderful, and a real treasure trove in experience here......i2f

When I used to go from Toronto to the Bahamas I always started just after labour day. Only ran into the end of a hurricane once (Floyd). It takes quite a while to get south from NY on the ICW. We used to get to Miami in December and cross, usually by the new year.

Very do-able. Hang around the Chessie till after the boat show (mid October) then begin to make your way further south. It will only take you a week of day sails from LIS to the Chesapeake so you don't need to leave in early September unless you want to explore.

So jealous of you! my gf and I were going to do the same trip from LIS to bahamas last year but because of our jobs pushed it back but we still plan on doing it this year at the earliest or 2011 at the latest. We also have a 32' boat. Goodluck and have fun!

I have never paid attention to the distance, and the timing of getting south. I was thinking like Cam with a mid to late Oct. Although I can truly understand wanting to get south with winter coming....BRRR RRRRRR..I hate the cold.....i2f

I would leave Sept. as it sounds like your kinda new to it all. This would take any pressure off of you to get there in a hurry and give you plenty of time to wait out weather or just extra time to see stuff.
And there is ALOT to see and do along the way. you can always spend more time ,but leave later and then you might find yourself trying to get further south later to find warm weather. depending on the fall we'll have.
If you get to the Chesapeake you'll never have enough time to see it all ! it's incredible.
Let me know when your passing through Florida we'll swap tall tales.
