Offshore weather

Subject: weather forecast for a transatlantic
When I sailed across last time, June 1984, I had a ham rig and got excellent weather charts from a navy Morse code coded weather maps. That system has been discontinued long time ago. I am planning to take my boat to the Med next June, sailing from Florida to Portugal's south coast, probably with a short wave reciever. Does anyone have an experience getting weather or weather fax on short wave along the way?
