Where to now?

I''m in the preliminary stages of planning a sailing trip for this Spring. There are two locations that I''m considering, neither of which I''ve been to before.I''m trying to make a decision between the two. The first location - the upper Abacos - Walker''s , Allans-Pensacola, Spainish, and Green Turtle Cays.I''ve sailed the lower Abacos and enjoyed them.I don''t know much about the upper ones besides what I''ve read in a few guide books. The second location is the lower Florida Keys, and Dry Tortugas.I''ve sailed the upper Keys and enjoyed them also, but don''t know much about the lower ones.Opinions from anyone that has sailed these areas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It has been about 16 years ago, but I sailed some in the upper islands after chartering a boat in Ft. Lauderdale. We sailed to Lucaya/Freeport over to West End then on to the bank and to Great Sale Cay. I think we then went to Grand Cay (I think that was the name) and up to Walker''s Cay then back to West End and home.

Sale Cay was great as there are no people and a nice beach. Grand Cay has a tricky entrance and a reversing tidal flow in the small anchorage, but was nice. Walker''s Cay is a sport fishing base but taking a slip allowed us to use the resorts amenities. We were definitely off the beaten path a bit and had a great time. I''d have to dig up my log to give any additional info.

Keep in mind this was a long time ago. Don''t know what it is like now.

Thanks for the reply Gerhard. Your description and the one I''ve read in my current cruising guide, sound pretty much the same. It doesn''t sound like that particular area of the upper Abacos has changed much.
