Clipper Ocean Race: good investment or waste of cash

Are any of you following the Clipper Race?
I just looked at the prices for individual legs and they are really expensive
would it be worth blowing three and a half grand on it?

It depends what you are looking to get out of it. I'm going all the way round the world, having quit my job, given up my home/possessions, and shelled out a lot of money. Half way through, it was all worth it an no regrets. If you're looking for an amazing challenge and a complete life changing experience, complete with all the highs and lows you could imagine, then it's worth it. However, I've met a lot of people with little previous sailing experience who think they are going to learn how to sail on this (and wonder why I don't put them on the helm in the middle of a race in the southern ocean). That's not going to happen. If you're fairly experienced, but with no offshore experience it's a great way to break into that. I think at the end of the day though, it has to be about more than just pure sailing for you or you'll be disappointed.
