isle a vache

have made trip from luperon, dominican republic to puerto rico by going east & across mona passage several times but just began reading info about going west around haiti to isle a vache and on that way being preferable. would like to hear from anyone who has gone that way & their experience in doing so. s/v mello moon

Check that the French run hotel on Ile a Vache is still operation (I'm pretty sure it is) they have moorings.

after stopping at isle a vache, haiti, we plan to head for either punta beata, d.r. or on to puerto rico by the best route. we have previously only taken the route east from luperon across the mona passage so still considering the advantages of and passage route west. need to make it back to grenada where we left several items at island water world after hurricane ivan wrecked our boat in egmont harbor. s/v mello moon

I read an article a few years back in either Latts and Atts or Cruising World. The author was boasting on how nice Isle a vache was and also how wonderful the people were. He mentioned that not many sailors go there due to the reputation that Haiti has. You might have an anchorage to yourself. The southern route is highly recommended in many cruising books.
