Not sure if this is realistic for the East Coast yet, but Sprint provides a device for $60/month that is all of the following:

1) 5 port wireless access point
2) Sprint 3G Modem - 5GB / month included
3) Sprint 4G/Clear WiMax 4G Modem - Unlimited data

I get a 4G Signal at both my house (Austin) and my boat (Kemah). It is as fast as my cable modem was. Plenty fast for Netflix Watch Now and Video conferencing.

It is an ideal device for my needs, but you need to be somewhere with Spring 3G coverage or better to use it.

I'm still liking the Nanostation setup best. We have a T-mobile phone account that was a special deal several years ago when we got it, 1000 minutes, free nights and weekends for $30 a month($35 with Tax's). Have not been able to beat that and we have never had a problem with coverage or connections. We don't want to give that up.
We are currently in a motor coach with a desktop setup. Wi-Fi is easy, just drive around shopping centers till we find a good connection. This setup we will put on the boat with the nanostation rig. I still think we will get a laptop for hiking around towns.
Thanks

5 knots isn't fast for a boat, but it's pretty quick for a house.
