Insurance For Blue Water Cruising

I have been told to get Insurance on my boat and also Health Insurance for my wife and I before we take off.
Does anybody have any suggestions. Would third party Insurance only for the boat be a good idea, ie incase I rub up against a shiny boat in a secluded anchorage.

Thanks for the help

Talk to Al Golden.
Al Golden [Al@IMIScorp.net]

He is an insurance agent and past long-distance cruiser with a good reputation.

The latest issue of Crusing World magazine has an excellent article about health insurance for cruisers. It is very detailed.
Good luck.

Hi there; be advised that al golden and most offshore ins. cos. do not insure older (20 year old) boats, try National Marine Underwriters in Annapolis.

Even though Silmaril is over 20 years old, I was able to get insurance through North American Underwiters in CT. They did require a recent comprehensive survey from a licenced marine surveyor before the policy was issued.
