Liveaboards Transcend Cyberspace

Two Sailnet crews that have responded to each other's posts on the forums met in the real world today in Annapolis. We've long admired the views and advice of "Wing n Wing" who live aboard their CSY and the crew of Aythya met them for lunch today and a boat tour. It's exciting to meet people that you seem to know well in cyberspace and find that they stand up to your expectations in the "real world". Here's Nancie with the real crew of Cinderella.

I haven't met anybody yet - plus I'm kind of a fake sailnet member because I am boatless! But I'm actually hoping to meet up with that same couple when I take my son to college in Annapolis. But if they are anything like how they are on these forums, I'm sure you had a great visit with them

CaptainForce: It's always a little disorienting to meet IRL someone who you've "known" for a while in cyberspace. On the one hand, it feels a bit like a foretaste of senility - your hindbrain says "This is a new person," and trots out all of your best stories, the ones you like to tell to help someone new understand who you are. And the other person keeps saying "I already knew that!" Weird. On the other hand, communication is so much richer and livelier when it includes tone, facial expression, body language, etc. It was a delight meeting you and I hope we'll see you again before you leave the area.

Tux: You're not "boatless," you're "pre-boat." You're "evolving and refining your boat requirements;" or "enhancing your skill set." See? It's all a matter of spin! Looking forward to meeting you too IRL in late August, and feeling that weird disorientation of "meeting" for the first time, someone who you already "know" in cyberspace.

My A/C is "almost" keeping up with the heat, it's quite comfy in here. Yeah, we look funky from the outside with that shade tarp draped over our boom, but ya know? I'm not living on the outside of my boat this week, and with the shade awning, the *inside* where I am living, is cooler.

Glad you all got to connect in real life. I met Jaye and Dan at the Sailnet Rendezvous 2011 and found them to be very nice people. Actually, everyone in attendance was nice but I fondly recall a couple of times sitting with Jaye and Dan.

Sounds great, I enjoy posts from both parties.
I've met a few Sailnetters on LI, and even sailed with the legendary CardiacPaul in Fl once.
