Cost/Practicality of keeping a boat in the tropics

Does anyone have experience keeping a boat--in the water or on the hard--in the Caribbean while coming back to the States for an extended period? I''m particularly interested in Belize/Rio Dulce/Bay Islands,
but info. on Eastern Puerto Rico, Sea of Cortez, Bahamas or Florida Keys would be useful too.
