Going from Antigua to US-need good reads

Purchasing a boat, Beneteau 44CC, in Antigua. Would like to know what the members here would suggest for good reading on making this trek. Have bareboat charter experience in the Caribbean. This is a little different than going from St Thomas to Virgin Gorda. There have to be good books and guides for the trip. What do you think?

Here is one:
There also are some great ocean charts that include wind rosettes which indicate predominant winds for each month.
Jimmy Cornell's book should give you most of what you need though.

Where are you headed?

Marsh Harbour makes a good stopping point if you are headed toward somewhere on the southern half of the coast. Bermuda if north. Its hurricane season now though so it isnt the greatest time to sail that route

Marsh Harbour is NOT a good stopping off place due to the entrances from the ocean to the banks being weather dependent. Boats are lost there.

Where are you going from Antigua. When are you leaving and how long do you have for the trip.

Assuming you are states bound Bruce Van Sants book A Gentlemans Guide to Passages South is ESSENTIAL reading.

Headed from Antigua to Buffalo, NY. We are not going to take a direct line from the islands to say Beaufort NC. So we are looking for info about sailing west and north from Antigua to Tortola to PR to Bahamas to FL. The start of the trip will be determined by weather, when the boat is fully prepped, and when we decide all the planets have lined up.

OK Antigua to Florida. A great trip almost all of it off the wind. Get your spi or cruising chute checked out. I would skip the DR and do Boqueron PR to Salt Cay T&C but Luperon has it's attractions just be VERY careful of the entrance.

Like I said get Van Sants book,

If you are in Antigua Lord Jims Locker will almost certainly have it in stock.

Contrary to what is said above, Marsh Harbour IS a good stopping place. TQA is right that the entrance is weather dependent. So, check the weather before you go in. Call the folks inside to see what it looks like from there. But rule it out because the weather might be bad? That seems a bit extreme when I and many others have found it to be a good place to take a break when going from the Carib to the East coast.

If the weather is bad? Keep on going. There. Not so hard.

PS Numerous other possible stopping places in the Bahamas and T and C as you head NW from the islands. Look at a chart
