So far the best storage containers I've ever used are the plastic PET bottles that Coke comes in (1.5 liter or bigger). I rinse and dry them and use them for rice, beans or anything dry that can "pour" out from the neck (not flour). Soft drink bottles don't break, come with perfectly hermetic caps and can be stored in the bilge easily. I got the idea from a book written by the Ceccon family (Brazilian circumnavigators). I also use those smaller o-ring tupperware containers for coffee, sugar, salt, flour and spices or anything I use on a daily basis.
