Seeking Blogs from Singlehanders

I'm collecting blog posts on how/why singlehanders go it alone. What does it mean for them regarding relationships, friendships, and family? Was it a choice or did the other half back out? Would you rather be alone, are you looking for a long-term partner, or perhaps looking for the occasional buddy boat? What are the emotional and practical realities of going it alone in what is often a coupled-up cruising world?

Are you a singlehander with a post on how and why you live life solo or your view, experience, or plan on finding a sailmate? Do you know of someone's blog post on this topic? If so, please post or message me a link or drop a comment over on The Monkey's Fist at The Monkey's Fist: Collecting Cruisers' Perspectives: Going It Alone Thanks!

Re: Seeking Blogs from Singlehanders

I enjoy reading Roger Jones' blog Sailing Reboot. He single hands his 42 ft Catalina, which he shares with his cat, XO. The genesis of his blog precedes his actual departure by quite a bit. If memory serves, he got underway mid-year of 2009. Start with July.

Personally, I think he has a bad case of wanderlust, so he's in it for the travel.
I don't think you'll get a lot of the internal feelings stuff, but you can read it and decide for yourself.

Re: Seeking Blogs from Singlehanders

Thanks, I will check out his blog!

And it's OK if it's not all touchy-feely, I understand a lot of guys won't be blogging that way. But they may have reasons for going it alone they are willing to share (freedom, independence), and perhaps tips on what they do to stay connected when/if they want to.

If anyone is singlehanding and doesn't blog but would like to contribute something to the compilation, we have a "guest blog" where we can include their post.
