Back to the water in Texas...I hope.

After three years off the water for a family crisis I am ready to get back...with a vengeance.

I am looking to buy a boat to live on in Corpus Christi. my sailing will be short trips in the GOM for the immediate future with the possibility of a GOM crossing later on.

My biggest focus is a comfortable boat to live on and sail the GOM.

So I need....

A boat, a place to live in it in Corpus and all the advice I can get for a first time live aboard.

I am extremely used to compact living as i travel professionally and have reduced my entire life to 4 pieces of luggage. That part will be easy. Now I just need to duplicate a Marriott bed on board and I will be all set.

Man, I miss the water.

I also travel and am pretty much an Expat. I live out of three suitcases, one of which is all dive gear. My boat is in Kemah and I do live there when I am in the US. I suppose I am a liveaboard because it is my home when I am not working.

The only advice I feel qualified to offer is to find a boat that fits the need. Smaller was better for me. 30 foot, bluewater capable and room enough for the essentials. Corpus is great and stayed there a while, but with the goal of getting out and heading south, the location of the marina and facilities were secondary to the boat, so I decided to keep her at South Shore Harbor and get the refit work done in area. If you need advice on who can help you with finding and prepping a boat there, let me know.

I really kike the Port Aransas area. Right next to Corpus but with a more small town feel. They have a nice municiple marina and it's only minutes from the Gulf. I think if I were to live on a boat in that area I would probably choose Port A.
