It's a shame to give up so easily. I was going to suggest a fuel cell. Carry the apparatus, a tank of Oxygen and another of Hydrogen, and you get pure water with electricity as a by-product.
Please don't flame me, I'm only kidding.

Are you going to the North Pole? People use batteries everywhere and as such there will be distilled water.

Distilled battery water water is available in most automotive shops, even in Asia. I keep 4 liters on board. A top up every 3 months in 90 F weather is my schedule. We make 100 Amps + a day on solar and wind power. The trojans do and will use water, and more as the ambient temperature increases.
