Free Blogs for Sailors
Forgive me if this is considered shamelessly promotional, and I will understand if I am flamed or the post is pulled by the moderator - but I thought it was something this board''s users might be interested in. It''s not as if it is selling something, after all - it''s a free service . . .
http://www.yotblog.com/
YOTBLOG is a new site where sailors are invited to create their own web diaries completely free. Signup is very easy, giving users a choice of no less than twenty-five templates to customise the look and feel of their log, and both pictures and HTML can be included in the blogs. Every account comes with detailed help to get you started and answer your questions. You can set privacy levels for entries and specify users in your ''friends'' list,
enabling you to write semi-private entries as well as publicly viewable ones.
The format is similar to a sailing log, and would make an ideal way for a yacht out cruising medium or long term to keep friends and family back home informed of their progress. Blogs can be updated from any PC, in an internet cafe for example, and the online tools are very easy to use.
YotBlog is not just for long distance cruisers however - anyone who wants a blog is welcome so long as sailing or sailing boats are involved somewhere. It could be the diary of your sailing season, a refitting or rebuilding project, or perhaps it could be a journal documenting your progress as you learn to sail. It could just be the story of your life as you struggle to realise your sailing dream.
