bare boat in Croatia

Hi everybody,
We are planning to rent a bare boat for two weeks in Croatia, on the second and third week of Septermber 2006.
Our idea is to sail from Zadar to Dubrovnik and go back to Zadar.
Any information regarding interesting places to visit and compaies to rent from.
Any information regarding Globe Charter Ltd ?
Thanks in advance
Jorge

We are bareboating in Croatia in June, but only for one week. We are using Sunsail in Kremik. Our tentative plan is to sail up the coast from there, and then swing back south of Kremik, if we have the time.
I will try to post a report from that trip sometime in July.

Charlie

Charlie: Did you make your trip to Croatia? I am planning to bareboat this summer and I could sure benefit from some hands-on experience.

I have a few friends who did charter in Croatia. If you have any specific questions - I can put you in touch with them. In general it appeared to be friendly, not particularly difficult and a good location.

One thing to consider - like most european countries, they require a "licensed captain" to charter. This means, that for US residents they want to see a USCG license - which is not too common. ASA certificates don't really do it for them. Larger charter companies (Moorings) have some sort of a deal with the government, where they can issue a "temporary license" of some sort based on experience, but from my conversation with them it seemed to be an uncertain way to go, potentially not available anymore. So, unless you have USCG license, or something official from another country - chartering there may be difficult, or you may be forced to hire a captain.

Thanks BraK... I know about the "license" requirements and I am currently exploring whether the Canadian Yachting Association (CSA) standards are applicable.

I hear Split is a very nice town, it includes an old palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian.

Mirage,
I am sailing in Croatia every year for many years and I also charted a lot from different companies.
Many local companies send a diver to check the bottom of the boat at return.
Those with lowest prices charge lots of extras and often try to make you pay for damages (real of fake). Those with normal prices are better.

Re. license: In the worst case you apply for a croatian one. You will pass an exam (about 10 min some questions by a friendly croatian captain) , pay some Kuna/Euro/Dollars and you will get it.
