Champlain or Erie Canal Question

For those of you who have traversed the Champlain or Erie Canals and are based in New York (i.e. registered or documented in NY with a NY port on your stern), did the lockmasters checked to make sure you had a current state registration sticker on your vessel before they let you through? I'm not planning on going through registering my boat until I get to Lake Champlain, but I'm wondering if I'm going to get denied entry to the canals if I wait.

Thanks!

Depends on who runs the locks. If Federal, shouldn't be a problem. Not their job. If state run, then they could, but it seems unlikely. My only experience with a lock was in LA, and the tower was too far away for them to be reading registrations.

tigerregis has a little shameless behaviour in the past
My recollection is that when it cost, they checked no's/name and your paid ticket. When it was free, they may have noted it, but I didn't know/care.
Since it is run by the NY Thruway, I doubt they care about individual stickers.
Check the website.

wap1602 is on a distinguished road
I came through the Champlain locks in '05, very early in the season. None of my paperwork was a) current or b) looked at.
