Key West to Yucatan Peninsula

Next winter we are considering sailing from Key West to the Yucatan Peninsula. The rhumb line is approximately 350n.m.
Anyone who has made this passage West bound please advise if during the winter it is likely that there will be weather opportunities when the wind is not adverse for 3-5 days. Also will the direction of the Gulf Stream be on the nose or will be crossing it on an angle on this track and how fast will the current be running?
