Smile Advice on Dominican Republic

Just curious...has anyone sailed to the DR? I'm seriously considering anchoring at Luperon (Hurricane Hole) or Ocean World. Luperon seems to be a "safe haven" for boaters during hurricane season. The cost certainly cannot be beat there either.

Maybe if some of you have been there, you can give some feedback on your thoughts?

Thank you!

Rick

Petty theft... dinghies, motors...unguarded stuff. Not violent theft or robberies typically. Lock it or lose it is the saying.

Thanks for the link and input. It's great getting both sides of the stories...positive and negative from this and other sites.

luperon

I second Camaraderie's report on Luperon. He forgot to mention the bugs and the lack of any kind of provisioning. You can rent a car or take a taxi to another town like Puerto Plata to get decent groceries. Fuel is from drums and I waited days for the fuel boat to deliver.
