Dismal Swamp Alert

Both locks on the Dismal Canal route have reduced openings at 9 am and 3 pm.

It's probably getting low on water. Opening the locks tends to drain the sysytem. I remember back around 1976 they had to close it completely due to drought conditions. The canal was only a few feet wide where the channel was. Very interesting, wish I had taken a pic...

All 3 lakes we use are over 10 feet low. They are getting to the point that the ramps are becoming useless. And I have a stink pot. Last time I took it out there was only 4 feet of water at the end of the ramp. And it was still only 4 feet about 100 feet out. That was 3 weeks ago. The levels have gone down more since then.

Yes, the reduced closing are due to drought conditions. I'm now waiting at South Mills Lock, and the depth has been at least 6' the whole way.
