Bay River, near Oriental, NC

Hello to any NC sailors out there. We're heading to rendezvous with another boat on the Bay River this holiday weekend. Do any of you local sailors have any tips for good anchorages in the Bay River for (2) boats?

I spent a quiet evening in the little indentation just before Harper Point (Red #6), though you can go in much further.

If its calm enough anywhere back in Bay River is fine...and largely undeveloped and beautiful like almost all of this area. Further west is a small town, Vandermere. Not much to its waterfront area but lots of space to anchor. Bonner Bay is really a part of Bay River on the Southern shore and is good.

We have anchored many, many times in the waterway north of Hobucken in a place call Campbell Creek on the western side of the waterway. (~ A couple of miles north of Bay River) Very convenient to the ICW and a great place to raft up with another boat. Here is the position of our last stop in Campbell Creek 35°17.010'N 076°37.721'W if that helps.

Claiborne Young's cruising guide comes in very handy if your going to be in NC long!

I'd agree with PT. Settled weather, anywhere on the Bay River is fine. I even saw a boat anchored just inside the south entrance to the canal, though you probably have too much depth for that. Eastham Creek, just north of the canal is also another possiblity.
