What I did on my summer vacation.
Five poor souls, all old enough to know better, took off on the Minnow from Oahu on June 12, sailed to Midway Atoll, and stayed there about a week.

From Midway we went to Attu Island, at the west end of the Aleutians. We followed the Aleutians to the North American mainland, and on to Prince William Sound.

Everybody else who started had left the boat by the time I got to Cold Bay. Something about my personal hygiene. Mike Fullerton got on at Dutch Harbor. Mike Webster returned and I headed home from Valdez, two months after we launched from Hawaii. The Minnow is now headed to Seattle, more or less.

I just got back from visiting your photo pages... Amazing!
I don't know about anybody else, but you've certainly given me something to shoot for... truly inspirational!

OK, now two questions:
I just got my diving certification, so I'm an admitted newbie... how do you convince yourself to go in the water after photographing the tiger shark attacking the albatross!?

Came across your photograph of the lovely 47lb halibut on the lovely teak!
Fortunately, I've had no luck fishing since we've gotten our new boat... how do you keep the blood, etc. from staining the teak or is it simply "to be expected"?

Funny you should mention that about the tiger shark. We had all planned to dive that afternoon at Midway, and for some reason we postponed. Most of the sharks there don't eat people, but our rule was if anybody sees a tiger shark, we get out of the water immediately. We saw a lot of galapagos sharks, but no tiger sharks while diving.

We just rinse the teak with salt water after cleaning a fish, and haven't had any stain problems.

Bob- great blog and pics, thanks for sharing it. What a great idea for a trip, I've always hated the idea of the return leg from Hawaii to Seattle, now I have an option!

Sounds like a good rule!!!

BTW, thanks again for a great post and the info on simply flushing the teak with salt water... guess I'll stop worrying about it and start trying to catch fish!
