Dismal Swamp Canal public docks being removed?

I thought some Sailnet members would want to know that the Commander, USCG 5th District is soliciting comment on the installation of a new swing bridge in the Dismal Swamp Canal, concurrent with the construction of a new N.C. Visitor''s Center, near the old Center *and the plan reflects no public docks in the proposed plan*. For ICW travelers this could be a real loss of benefit and comment would seem warranted by anyone who would hate to see these existing docks eliminated. I posted my rationale for their existance at the ssca.org Discussion BB for those interested in understanding the issue. Deadline for comment is 3/14/03.
