Head problems

Just finished a 1 week charter on a Hunter 37 in the Florida Keys. The single head on board clogged up 3 times! Is this a common problem? Is there a simple way to repair this?

alas, it is a common problem. i have found that using less paper and/or flushing more often will help.

i never put any paper products into the head. Also, you may have a calcium buildup in the hose. Flush vinegar through the head to help break these deposits and free up the hose. You may have to do this a few times. One common mistake, i''ve heard is flushing bleach down the head. this actually reacts w/ salt water to creat calcium deposits.
