I''m just having a little fun…
Honestly, I pass most of them by purposely: no one likes to be constantly corrected (anyone who''s had a wife knows that). But it''s such easy pickings around here, and sometimes I just can''t resist, especially when the "hot air" gets blowing. Just want to remind <em>those who would know</em> that a touch of humility makes what we have to say more palatable.

Now that I''ve been exposed, I have two choices:<ol><li>Warn everyone that my red pen is out, and that he''d better be on his lexical toes (not likely to make me very popular). Or,<li>Retire quietly, and continue to be amused as the semi-literate opinions keep rolling in, occasionally pointing out the most egregious faux pas.</ol>I think I know which choice will get me less hate-mail… :^)

I particularly liked the Eureka Moment when Noreaster used a period. It touched many of our hearts.

One thing that has to be noted. This site is world wide and different cultures spell words different than the US. Others just don''t have the clerical aptitude, or do not even care!

One particularly satisfying attribute of these message boards is content. I was an English major in university and I believe I know proper grammar and spelling. However, unlike our educated political leaders, most members truly have something worthwhile (sorry--"pragmatic") to say to us (my apology to Mr. Churchill for ending my sentence with a preposition). I''m happy to suffer the spelling in order to gain an education.

Besides, sailors are by nature polite and accommodating--why else would we would travel thousands of miles to visit poor countries and ignore bad grammar so we can find some ice for our gin and tonic?
