CS 33 sails

I am looking at a 1984 CS 33. The current owner states the sails are in "fair" condition. Would some one be able to give me a reasonable budget number for a new set?

Thanks in advance.

Re: CS 33 sails

And you're going to want fresh clean sails, trust me. Beginner or veteran your sails are the "engine" especially for any kind of upwind work, that boat is highly capable.

Re: CS 33 sails

Where would you get the sails from? Would you trust a small loft? Better service, but risk? I like to use the small guy any chance I can.

Re: CS 33 sails

The possibilities are endless. Personal service from a local guy is hard to beat. Although I have with good result bought on price alone, and not to single any one loft out, North is pretty darned high no matter what you spec from them. They cater to the local racer and easily justify their pricing I guess. More are made offshore than you might imagine even by traditional lofts don't be afraid to ask but I still wouldn't rule them out. Talk to the guys on the dock, what area are you in?

Re: CS 33 sails

We live on Grand Cayman. Any sails I would get would need shipped here. The freight forwarder I use is in Miami.

Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it.

Re: CS 33 sails

I just bought a CS30 that spent some time in the Caymans, now commissioning here in the lower Chesapeake bay. Double Quarter berth aft and a chart table in 30' well laid out. Very well built Boat and a good turn of speed as well. Really strange how they attempted the vented loops on the Engine and Head, you might want to look at how they are set up on this (your) Boat.
Oh and plenty sail makers in Miami FtLauderdale. I cant recommend anyone personally but Mack has a loft down there all USA made, old family shop as I understand it. Havent bought from them but I would.

Re: CS 33 sails

Had a quote from Mack sails for our CS33 this winter. It was 4500$US for a new main with full battens and 2 reef points and a 130 furling jib. They only use Challenger cloth and are made in Florida Shipping to Canada, where we are, was free. Will go with them for sure. I got 3 other quotes but didn't like some aspects of each of them. A friend bought a furling genoa from them 2 years ago for his CS 36 Merlin and is very happy with it. It sets and furls perfectly as well as being well finished. Good luck and enjoy your new boat. Gentlemen,

Thank you for the advice.

Peter have your sails been delivered yet. Wondering how long did it take to get them made?

Re: CS 33 sails

Haven't ordered them as of yet as the Canadian dollar is down 25% I will however purchase from Mack as soon as the dollar rises toward par. Peter
