Airmar P79 CS36T

Anybody have luck getting a shoot through the hull depth transducer such as Airmar P79 to work on a CS36T? I know the hull is actually fairly thick, maybe as much as 3/4"? which I believe is a little thicker than Airmar recommends. I am not getting a reading in any of the test areas I have tried, although I did not remove any paint or gelcoat yet in those test areas. The unit does work fine if I test it over the side in the water. If you got one to work where did you put it? Thanks.

Re: Airmar P79 CS36T

Are you trying the waterbag trick? Fill a ziploc bag, seal it with no bubbles, put it against the hull and try placing the transducer on top of that.

Air in between the hull and transducer can cause problems.

Forward starboard v-berth foot locker just behind the forward bulkhead in that locker. No issues.. I suggest testing it with a toilet bowl wax ring rather than a baggie full of water... I have one customer who stuck it in a wax ring for testing 12 years ago, and it is still there today. He lost the rest of the kit and has no desire to change what's working for him....

Re: Airmar P79 CS36T

Thanks guys, I'll give those suggestions a shot. Was trying the vaseline test without results. Maine did you grind down the paint or gelcoat in the area you suggested? Do you think that is necessary? Starboard foot locker area is probably a good spot. I was trying the locker under the head sink.
